Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohl's Spring 2010 Lookbook
Thu, 11 Mar 2010 16:45:00 +0000

Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohls Spring 2010 Lookbook

The Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohl's Spring 2010 collection lookbook is out, showcasing designer Vera Wang's affordable collection of contemporary apparel, jewelry, handbags and shoes with an artful edge. Happy colors like coral, purple, teal and yellow play on dresses, tunics and tops, along with floral and brushstroke prints, which contrast nicely with basic blacks. Leggings are always a big part of Vera's collections but there are some cropped pants, jeans and denim trousers to choose from, too. Most of these pieces are already available in stores and at kohls.com, so you may have seen or shopped them already (hopefully on sale!). I love the sequin tank tunic, thought it looked really luxe in person. I'm also a big fan of all the chunk chain jewelry (not loving the cheesy flower jewelry so much). I just wish they'd step up the quality of the bags, considering the steep prices. Which pieces do you love? Keep reading to see the whole collection!

My New Stacked Crystal Lamp from Target
Tue, 09 Mar 2010 17:14:00 +0000

Budget Decor: My New Stacked Crystal Lamp from Target

The hunt for a stacked crystal ball lamp ended today! I finally found one at Target (recommended by some readers) and I loved it. It's not as luxe as the Pottery Barn one, and I never did see the one at JCPenney, but for $35.99, I think it's exactly what my desk needed! It's the perfect size and I love how the balls go from big to small. In the store I was afraid it looked too plastic-y, but at home, it looks fantastic! Thanks again to everyone for sharing your feedback. Depending on what you're looking for, I think both Target and JCPenney offer great versions of this classic style lamp that will add a chic touch to your home.

New Site Spotlight: One Kings Lane
Tue, 09 Mar 2010 11:17:26 +0000

Eco-friendly, durable and grown pesticide-free, this handsome hemp doggie bed by Harry Barker has earned its stripes. ($59-$79 at onekingslane.com)

In this month's issue of All You magazine, I discovered a home decor site that offers limited-time only sales on designer goodies called One King's Lane. It's like Gilt or Rue La La for the home! Today's sale on Harry Barker dog beds might be when I make my first purchase. I've learned from experience that it's better to buy a quality bed that will last for years than a bunch of cheap ones that wear out quickly (except when they are accident-prone puppies). Please accept my invitation to OneKingsLane.com and let me know what you think!

Camouflage “it” Spring 2010

So the first spring 2010 fashion trend starting to come out of hiding – camouflage prints. JCPenney Discover Spring Style Event
Mon, 08 Mar 2010 18:43:00 +0000

Last Tuesday I attended the JCPenney Discover Spring Style event at the Lincoln Center in New York City to see highlights from the upcoming spring fashion collections. Celebrity designers in attendance included Cindy Crawford (Cindy Crawford Style), Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (Olsenboye), Michele Bohbot (Bisou Bisou), Charlotte Ronson (I Heart Ronson) and Nicole Miller (Nicole by Nicole Miller). You could tell that the crowd (myself included) was thrilled to see Cindy and the Olsens briefly introduce their collections before models took to the runway to showcase the latest trends: Modern safari, brights, florals, lots of denim and bold accessories. Celebrity hoopla aside, I think JCP offers a lot of affordable, stylish pieces to get excited about this season. My favorite piece was a pink dress with a giant side ruffle, hands down! What do you think about the latest spring offerings? Have you shopped JCP yet? Keep reading to see all the looks!

Off the Rack: Jean Paul Gaultier for Target
Mon, 08 Mar 2010 00:00:00 +0000

The Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection hit stores Sunday, and while i wasn't able to see it for myself, I recruited my sister to check it out for me and take the photos you see here. Isn't that what sisters are for? Anyways, my sister was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and styling, despite prices that felt higher than usual and inconsistent sizing (a constant battle). Highlights for her included the brown and red leather bomber—undeniably fabulous, but then again, you'd expect it to be great for $200, she said. The tattoo print tights, tops and bathing suits, however, are reminiscent of Ed Hardy and therefore seem generic rather than special. The rolled collar floral dress was her favorite piece because of the lovely neckline and interesting detailing. She actually liked the plastic-y fabric because it holds its shape and doesn't wrinkle. All things considered, my sister says this might be her favorite Designer Collaborations line so far. Have you shopped this collection yet? What did you buy?

Off the Rack: Spring Trends at Zara
Sun, 07 Mar 2010 07:32:00 +0000

Spring's MILITARY TREND played out at Zara in structured jackets, lots of khaki and subdued camo prints. (jacket shown here, $129)

If you have the good fortune of living near a Zara, you will be treated to a sophisticated selection of early Spring fashion offerings. Gone are the blacks and grays of winter, and in their place, lots of pale neutrals, and colors like rose, camel, gray blue and off-white. Zara caters to the urban, modern shopper so a lot of the clothes are work appropriate and priced closer to the $100 mark. I was most excited about the accessories but those are tricky to photograph, as you can imagine. Gorgeous studded sandals, denim platforms, slouchy genuine leather hobos, fab belts, lightweight scarves, chic flats—the works! Again, not cheap but worth taking a look. Here are a few pics I snapped to give you a taste of what's in store.

Beauty Review: Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss
Fri, 05 Mar 2010 17:25:00 +0000

Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss in Peach Sorbet, taken on top of the ad in People StyleWatch March 2010 issue. My lips did not look at all like the models but the results were "real life" good!

During Fashion Week, Maybelline reps handed out free samples of some of their new products each day in the tents, so you know I stopped by every chance I could to get my freebie. My favorite product was probably the new Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss which I tested in Peach Sorbet. It's a fruity, glassy gloss that goes on smooth, not sticky, and lasts until your next meal (no way around that!).

Off the Rack: Chinese Laundry Spring 2010 Styles

Off the Rack: Chinese Laundry Spring 2010 Styles

Last month I was invited to check out the latest Spring 2010 styles from Chinese Laundry as well as their sub brands, CL Wash, CL by Laundry, and Dirty Laundry, in NYC. Lots of fun new styles, plus repeat trends from last season which is always good because you can get more wear out of the shoes you already own! Casual styles include neon canvas sneaks, super cushy flip flops (they feel like Havaianas), embellished jellies and funky wellies. For nightlife, I was loving the black mesh heels and velvet platforms. For day to night, I saw bejeweled gladiator sandals and ruffled thongs, perfect for spring break or summer. I got also a sneak peek at next Fall's styles, which I can't show you, but I can tell you that buckles and studs are coming back, plus lots of ankle booties, moto- and Western-inspired boots. Most styles are under $100 and you can find all the details at ChineseLaundry.com. Keep reading for more shoes, glorious shoes!

Beauty Review: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Pat On The Black
Wed, 03 Mar 2010 07:18:00 +0000

Beauty Review: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Pat On The Black

Sometime during fashion week I was bitten by the black nail polish bug. I noticed it's always popular with fashionistas, no matter what the season or which way the trend winds are blowing, so I hit up my local Target last weekend and picked up a bottle of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Pat On The Black to get my fix. Picture the darkest point in a glass of Merlot, and you've got your color. Gorgeous! Two coats and you're almost there, but three coats are necessary to achieve bottle color. Not uncommon with such dark shades, and since it goes on smooth, even and dries relatively quickly, it's not a problem. The quality of this line of polishes is really good, too. I'm officially addicted. It doesn't chip easily (that's day 3 up above) and it's not a pain to remove. I don't think this color is new or particularly trendy, just a timeless, chic polish to add to your collection!

Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish
by Sally Hansen can be purchased at Ulta.com for $7.99.

Video Beauty Review: Karma Organic Nail Polish Remover
Mon, 01 Mar 2010 13:47:00 +0000

If you've ever fantasized about nail polish remover that doesn't make you nauseous with its toxic smell, then your nose (and nails!) will love Karma Organic Nail Polish Remover. Recently the New Jersey-based Karma Organic Spa, which has its own line of organic products, sent me two complimentary bottles of their nail polish remover to test and review. Not only do these nail polish removers smell great, they actually work too! I couldn't believe my nose. Or my eyes.

My New Hype "Janice" Handbag from T.J. Maxx
Mon, 01 Mar 2010 12:18:00 +0000

My New Hype Janice Handbag from T.J. Maxx

Last week I asked you guys if I should splurge on a leather Hype bag that I found at T.J. Maxx on clearance for $99 (had the red tag), and the majority of you responded with a resounding YES! So, encouraged by all the positive feedback, I went back and got the bag. Couldn't be happier with my decision. You'd think I'd have tons of black bags sitting around my closet, but the last time I purchased a black bag was back in January 2008 (it's the Foley & Corinna knockoff from Forever 21 shown here), so it was definitely time for me to update my black-bag look.

If you like the Hype Janice, too, reader Christina found it at SmartBargains.com in tan or nutmeg for $103.98, which seems to be the best price currently on the web. I also found this bag in a fabulous teal or orange shade at Endless.com, use the widget below to check those options out. Thanks for all the help!!

Product Review: Footzyrolls Rollable Shoe
Thu, 25 Feb 2010 13:59:51 +0000

Product Review: Footzyrolls Rollable Shoe

I'm often asked to review new products and most of the time, I pass on these opportunities because honestly, there are a lot of really bad concepts out there, and regardless of your budget, why waste money on junk, right? But Footzyrolls are different (sort of): They don't work for me and my lifestyle because I am past the point of wearing impossibly painful shoes, BUT they may very well be a godsend to those of you who rock those 5-inch heels at a party or club, but need something you can slip into for the cab ride or walk home. And for those occasions, ladies, I present to you Footzyrolls Rollable Shoes! Here's what their website says:

"Completely rollable and foldable, Fits in the smallest bag, Water proof and Skid proof Sole, Carry as your spare pair, Great for travel, Great to wear in the office, Great to wear outside! Upper is made from a PU that you can easily clean. You will never want to go out without them! Unroll into Comfort"

As you can see from my photos above, these shoes take up very little space and are flat enough to fit in a big clutch. They're cute and comfy and have a fun red sole. I doubt you could walk long distances in them, and they won't offer much protection from snow, rain, mud, etc. but they're better than going barefoot on grimy city streets when your feet are bleeding! (We've all been there before…right?)

I'm not loving the $25 pricetag (you could just as easily buy a cheap pair of ballet flats from Walmart for $10 and shove those in your purse) but I actually saw these at a Leila Rowe boutique in NYC on sale half-off, so you might be able to pick up a pair for less. Plus, the $25 includes a bag for your heels and a little pouch for your Footzyrolls (although not really necessary since the point is to travel as light as possible).

Would I buy these had I not been sent a free pair? No, but that's because I have no need for rollable shoes. Might you enjoy them? Yes, if you often find yourself on the go and in need of some "just in case" shoes.

Black Leather Hype Bag at T.J. Maxx: Should I Get It?
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 17:06:00 +0000

The bag in question...

During my trip to T.J. Maxx yesterday, I fell in love with this black leather bag by Hype, on sale for $99. It was the perfect size, nice lining, lots of pockets, and "fit" just right on my shoulder. Since most Hype bags sell for $200 to $300 or more, I think it's a good deal but I rarely spend over $40 for a bag. The closet comp I found online was this Hype Janice bag in brown leather for $177 at Bluefly.com. So I need a second (or third or fourth) opinion: Should I get it? Does anyone own a Hype bag? Are they worth the price? Help!

Another random photo from my trip: I saw a lot of studded bags at Fashion Week, so this bag by Nicole Lee caught my eye. Not bad for $29.99. It looked like real leather and the studding didn't look cheap. Going to keep my eye on this new-to-me brand.

Liberty of London for Target in People StyleWatch
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 15:42:00 +0000

Photo credit: People StyleWatch, March 2010. Still Lifes by Anthony Verde

In the March 2010 issue, People StyleWatch features highlights from the upcoming Liberty of London for Target collection, which reaches Target stores March 14th. The British brand is bringing its signature floral prints to an affordable fashion collection as well as stationary, bedding and kitchen items. Shown here, we have rubber rain boots ($29.99), an oversize cotton shirt ($24.99), crepe ruffled top ($19.99) and cotton sateen tote ($19.99). Pure eye-candy! But one theory that's been tossed around the blogosphere is that these designer collabs are just there to make the regular collections (Xhilaration, Mossimo, etc.) seem cheap in comparison, thereby encouraging shoppers to make more purchases. I think there's definitely some truth to that. Target lures me in with these collabs each and every time—but I don't always take the bait and buy. Close-ups after the jump…

Off the Rack: T.J. Maxx Stocks Pour La Victoire "Bridgette" As Seen in This Month's People StyleWatch, Plus L.A.M.B. "Jaco"
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 11:57:00 +0000

A shelf at T.J. Maxx stocked with Pour La Victoire "Bridgett" and L.A.M.B. "Jaco" leather sandals priced at $149.99.

Yesterday morning I ducked into T.J. Maxx in hopes of finding a stacked crystal ball lamp—no such luck—but I did spot a shelf stocked with designer shoes in just about all sizes, namely, the Pour La Victoire "Bridgette" and the L.A.M.B. "Jaco", both on sale for $149.99. Still pricey but much less than what you'd pay elsewhere (see details in the captions below). Then, last night as I was reading the March issue of People StyleWatch, I saw the very same PLV's staring back at me on page 135! Hence, this post. The moral of the story: T.J. Maxx does in fact carry the latest trends for less! If you're in the market for some fierce heels, head to your nearest T.J. Maxx ASAP to snag a pair.

L.A.M.B. "Jaco" leather sandals for $149.99. These are currently $299 at Nordstrom.com!

Pour La Victoire "Bridgette" leather sandals, also $149.99. According to this month's issue of People StyleWatch, they sell for $290 at Bergdorf Goodman! See them in black at Piperlime.com for $285.

See?! Here are the Pour La Victoire "Bridgette" leather sandals as seen in the March 2010 issue of People StyleWatch on their "Laser Cutouts" trend page. Color is sliiightly different.

Isaac Mizrahi Fall 2010 Collection Review
Tue, 23 Feb 2010 18:05:00 +0000

Isaac Mizrahi's Fall 2010 runway show last week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was easily the highlight of my week. The energy of the audience, the excitement of the show, the live music, the fake snow, the clothes—everything came together to create an experience that had but one flaw: It was too short! But that's the nature of these live runway shows. Blink and you might miss it. Back to the clothes: The collection was classic Isaac. Fun, beautiful clothing with a twist. His show notes listed an eclectic mash-up of inspirations, from the great outdoors (albeit Central Park) to bag-lady chic to fairy princesses and beyond. Think Geoffrey L.L. Bean or Buffalo Bill Blass. I giggled in my seat as I read the program, knowing I was in for a treat.
